Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Cook to join our team at Extendicare Holyrood, a 74-bed long-term care facility in Edmonton, Alberta. As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and serving meals to our residents, ensuring their dietary needs are met while maintaining a clean and safe kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences, observing time limits for meal serving and maintaining food at proper serving temperature.
  • Prepare simple foods such as breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes, following basic instructions and guidelines.
  • Read and record food and fridge temperatures, ensuring proper discarding of food as per Public Health Guidelines.
  • Assist with clearing of plates and trays, loading and operating the dishwasher, and cleaning pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
  • Participate in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers, and ensure the food storage room is clean and organized.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and participate in facility meetings as assigned, attending in-service education programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Previous dietary experience in a long-term care home is preferred.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and perform moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Ability to work weekends, days, and evenings as per schedule, and work safely following established safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to read and write English and understand verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Successful candidate must be available to work days, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays.
