About the Role

The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mortgage Underwriter to join their Homeowner Underwriting team. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing loan applications for mortgage insurance and ensuring that they meet the necessary requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze loan applications for mortgage insurance, including information related to the borrower, property, and market
  • Apply sound judgment and decision-making practices to derive recommendations and other options beneficial to the client
  • Negotiate reasonable solutions in line with risk appetite
  • Exercise prudence and diligence to ensure compliance with internal policies and procedures
  • Use effective oral and written communication to deliver clear rationale for underwriting decisions

Requirements

  • University degree in business administration, finance, or commerce
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in mortgage underwriting or individual credit analysis
  • Knowledge of risk management principles and residential property appraisals
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and decision-making skills
  • In-depth knowledge of risk factors related to credit, employment, local markets, and mortgage sector trends
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in both official languages (English and French)
