Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Systems Specialist to join our team at Manitoba Hydro. As an Electrical Systems Specialist, you will be responsible for providing operational and construction support related to maintenance, repairs, installation, additions, and modifications to the building electrical equipment and systems in substations, switchyards, and other locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform maintenance, repairs, installation, additions, and modifications to the building electrical equipment and systems in substations, switchyards, associated facilities, and other locations as required.
- Perform repairs, trouble shooting, inspection, and maintenance of a variety of electrical equipment such as electric boilers, water heaters, stand-by generators (portable and fixed), HRVs, circuit breakers, air conditioning systems, electric heating systems, equipment drive motors and starters, cranes, and hoists, building and yard lighting, parking lots, and equipment control systems.
- Install and commission electrical apparatus and associated controls used in building systems.
- Perform electrical construction and new installations for systems.
- Perform relocations for power, telephone, and communication cables.
- Ensure maintenance records, station procedures write-ups, print revisions, and test procedure instructions are kept current.
- Assist with preparation of estimates, material lists and requisitions associated with additions and modifications.
- Required to act as a safety watcher, ensuring all Corporate and Provincial safety regulations, policies, and practices are adhered to.
- Provide direction and training to junior staff assigned to work area.
- Prepare clear and concise reports of all work performed using Microsoft Office applications.
- Use of the R.M.S. system to open and close daily work orders as well as the ability to generate corrective work orders.
Qualifications:
- Must have a Grade 12 education and a Manitoba Certificate of Qualification as a Construction Journeyperson Electrician and a valid Manitoba Department of Labor Construction Journeyperson Electrician's Licence.
- Must have one year of experience in the installation and maintenance of electrical equipment and systems associated with large commercial buildings.
- Ability to work with a minimum of supervision from diagrams, blueprints, manuals, and oral and written instructions.
- Proven diagnostic skills and abilities.
- Familiar with the use of electrical measuring instruments, devices, equipment, apparatus, and the interpretation of schematics and construction drawings.
- Familiar with station and system operation, construction standards, test procedures, and the use and care of instruments and
- Must be thoroughly conversant with the requirements of the Canadian Electrical Code and safe working practices.
- Capable of providing direction to junior employees and be able to work harmoniously with fellow employees.
- Possess an approved set of personal hand tools.
- Physically capable of performing the duties of the position (i.e., ability to work at heights, etc.).
- Familiar with Provincial Safety Rules, Canadian Electrical Code, WHMIS, Dangerous Goods Regulations and other approved practices and procedures.
- Capable of communicating effectively both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of refrigeration gas cycle and associated controls would be an asset.
- Ability to operate equipment such as, platform manlift, and bucket truck.
- Possess a valid Province of Manitoba Driver's Licence.
