About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Environmental and Regulatory Affairs Lawyer to join our team in Montreal, QC. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your expertise in environmental law and regulatory affairs to drive business growth while ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, laws, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead complex permitting efforts by forming teams of functional and operational experts, developing permitting strategies, and directing their execution.
  2. Identify emerging new laws/regulations and proposed changes to existing regulations, assessing their impacts on our business unit and company.
  3. Develop and implement advocacy efforts on proposed regulatory developments, including drafting official comments on behalf of our company.
  4. Conduct internal investigations into allegations of non-compliance with environmental laws and regulations.
  5. Respond to formal and informal notices of non-compliance received from regulatory bodies.
  6. Participate in global ESG audit programs.
  7. Provide legal services and support with procurement/sales matters, including the drafting, negotiation, and revising of sales/supply agreements.
  8. Manage litigation matters, including managing external counsel.

Requirements:

  • A graduate degree from an accredited law school and admitted to a provincial/state bar.
  • A minimum of 3-7 years of experience in environmental and manufacturing law.
  • Bilingual (French & English) skills are essential for this role.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Prior in-house experience in or related to the pulp and paper industry is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits:

This role offers a competitive salary range of $120,000-$180,000 per annum, depending on experience, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings plan, and opportunities for professional development.
