Job Description:

The Brick and Stone Mason reports to the Project Superintendent and is responsible for laying bricks, concrete blocks, stone, and other similar materials to construct or repair walls, arches, chimneys, fireplaces, and other structures in accordance with blueprints and specifications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Pre-Construction: Read sketches and blueprints to calculate the materials required.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform daily inspection and maintenance on necessary equipment.
  • Project Planning: Communicate and plan project procedures with supervisors and foremen.
  • Masonry Work: Measure, cut, and trim bricks and concrete blocks to specification using hand and power tools.
  • Structural Construction: Prepare and lay bricks, concrete blocks, stone, structural tiles, and similar materials to construct or repair walls, foundations, and other structures in residential, industrial, and commercial construction.
  • Specialized Masonry: Lay bricks or other masonry units to build residential or commercial chimneys and fireplaces.
  • Industrial Masonry: Lay radial bricks to build masonry shells of industrial chimneys.
  • Refractory Installation: Lay or install firebricks to line industrial chimneys and smokestacks.
  • Restoration and Maintenance: Line or reline furnaces, kilns, boilers, and similar installations using refractory or acid-resistant bricks, refractory concrete, plastic refractories, and other materials.
  • Veneer Installation: Lay bricks, stone, or similar materials to provide veneer-facing to walls or other surfaces.
  • Prefabricated Masonry: Construct and install prefabricated masonry units.
  • Decorative Masonry: Lay bricks or other masonry units to build patios, garden walls, and other decorative installations.
  • Additional Tasks: May restore, clean, or paint existing masonry structures.
Requirements:
  • Education: Completion of secondary school.
  • Training: A trade certificate from a recognized institution is considered an asset.
  • Experience: 5+ years of brick and stone masonry experience in a high-end residential setting.
  • Safety and Physical Demands: Adhere to all safety requirements and policies. Able to perform physically demanding work including but not limited to handling heavy loads, standing for extended periods, bending, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Additional Requirements: Valid driver's license. Basic knowledge of construction methods. Excellent attention to detail and focus on quality finished work. Strong work ethic and ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Happy to work outside year-round.
