GFL Environmental is seeking a skilled Heavy Equipment Operator to join its Emergency Response division in Bowmanville. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for safely operating and/or having the ability to operate various equipment, including excavators, mini excavators, skid steers, and backhoes. Your duties will include conducting environmental clean-up activities, ensuring Hazardous-Materials incident mitigation, performing chemical transfers, and participating in technical rescue activities. You will also be involved in chemical firefighting tasks, provide dangerous goods consulting, and participate in various Industrial services. Additionally, you will respond to various emergencies as requested, participate in job-specific and health & safety training, and operate your position in an efficient and safe manner. You will also participate in standby confined space rescue work, complete work-related documentation and reporting, and follow all established organizational policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will have post-secondary education, preferably in a related area of study, and pre-service Fire, Medical, or Police training. They will also have NFPA 472 Hazardous Material Operations and NFPA 1001 level 1 or 2 certifications. On-call work availability for emergency response is required, and hazardous materials and/or environmental experience is an asset. Strong communication skills, confined space awareness, and a reliable means of personal transportation are also essential. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, service-oriented individual with a strong attention to detail and accuracy. They will also be professional and trustworthy, with a customer focus to their work. Valid Certification in First Aid/CPR is required, and bilingual English/French or other languages are an asset.
