Job Summary

GFL Environmental is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Oakville. As a key member of our Liquids Division, you will be responsible for safely operating, repairing, rebuilding, and maintaining our heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Equipment Maintenance: Diagnose and repair operational difficulties with heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Repair and Maintenance: Maintain and repair heavy diesel, CNG, gas, and electrically operated equipment and vehicles, adhering to safety regulations and company standards.
  • Administrative Tasks: Complete reports, work orders, order parts, and perform other administrative duties as required daily.
  • Planning and Scheduling: Plan and schedule repairs in M5 planner and procure all necessary parts for successful completion.
  • Quality Control: Assist in the review of mechanical write-ups on equipment and coordinate repair schedules to ensure timely completion.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure safe working conditions and compliance with all safety regulations, company policies, and applicable laws.
  • Tool Maintenance: Utilize a variety of power and hand tools and equipment, and maintain a clean work area.
  • Training and Development: Assist in the training and orientation of new employees and maintain a working knowledge of the latest technology through technical manuals and training seminars.
Requirements:
  • Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); technical diploma desired.
  • Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience as a diesel mechanic, with experience using diagnostic software a plus.
  • Skills and Abilities: Must be computer literate, have the ability to be trained on software systems, and the willingness to learn.
  • Safety Requirements: Must be able to meet relevant criteria for safety-sensitive functions according to Company standards.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Communication: Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrate ability to follow detailed instructions, work independently, and maintain accurate records.
  • Language Skills: Ability to understand and effectively use repair and parts manuals written in English.
  • Physical Abilities: Possess physical ability to perform all aspects of the job.
Physical and Mental Demands:
  • Physical Effort: Ability to stand, sit, walk, use hands and fingers, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, climb, balance, taste, and smell.
  • Mental Demands: Continuous concentrated mental and visual attention required.
Visual Requirements:
  • Closeness of Vision: Include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Physical Effort: Frequently lift/push/pull up to 100 pounds.
Working Conditions:
  • Environmental Factors: Frequently exposed to loud noise, humidity, hot and cold weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, vibration, toxic and caustic chemicals, fumes, and airborne particles.
  • Work Environment: Occasionally work in high precarious places, and work environment is usually loud.
