**About the Role**
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Risk Management and Accreditation Manager to join our team at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating, developing, and evaluating all Risk Management activities across our organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Risk Management:
- Monitor incident reporting management systems to identify potential personal litigation claims or property insurance claims that cause exposure to harm, financial or reputational risk.
- Report to senior leadership and external insurance companies.
- Manage all open risk files to determine probability of litigation and prepare annual reports to Senior Leadership and Board of Directors.
- Work with programs to identify and mitigate risks to patients and families, staff, and the organization overall.
- Ensure Enterprise Risk Management strategy is delivered in a timely and efficient manner, including comprehensive reporting to various stakeholders.
- Oversight for annual risk assessment process.
- Ensure risk issues are well documented, well reviewed, and mitigated swiftly.
- Support risk management activities at partner sites.
- Litigation:
- Ensure ongoing leadership of the legal process to ensure defense counsel have appropriate tools to defend RVH in all legal matters, and to ensure the insurance company has reserved funds in the event of pending legal action.
- Act as the primary liaison with both prosecution and defense law firms, and insurance companies and claims adjusters.
- Accept claims on behalf of the organization, notifying senior leaders and identifying appropriate RVH parties listed in the claim.
- Prepare and support staff directly impacted by legal activity throughout the entire legal process including attending and coordinating discoveries, pre-trials, trials, and settlements; ensures confidentiality of all legal matters by developing physical safeguards.
- Manage all open legal files and prepare annual reports to Senior Leadership and Board of Directors.
- Accreditation:
- Ensure ongoing continuous quality improvement and patient safety at RVH by acting as liaison between the hospital and Accreditation Canada.
- Hold programs accountable for annual national standard compliance and report variations to senior leadership where applicable.
- Develop monitoring tools and meet with senior leaders to identify gaps and develop mitigating strategies.
- Develop and lead training for all hospital staff, physicians, and volunteers, including leading Leadership Excellence sessions, creating videos, PowerPoints, etc.
- Manage ongoing program mock tracer training and report wins and opportunities to leaders and assist in the development of mitigation strategies.
- Manage Accreditation committees and provide updates to senior leaders.
- Prepare the organization for on-site survey including liaising with surveyors and Accreditation Canada, ensuring facility readiness and preparing front-line staff.
- Lead the Canadian Patient Safety Culture Survey throughout the organization.
- Lead Accreditation preparedness and activities at partner sites, as required.
- Management:
- Act as primary backup for all privacy and legislation matters. This includes monitoring privacy audit tool, conducting privacy investigations, disclosing potential breaches to patients, visitors, staff, and the Information and Privacy Commissioner, and ensuring ongoing compliance with all legislation impacting the organization.
- Performance management (recruitment, setting goals for staff, performance monitoring).
- Assist in the development of annual strategic planning sessions with the team and ongoing review to ensure alignment.
- Ensure fiscal management, LEM activities, ongoing education, etc.
- Oversight of departmental policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- Undergraduate Degree in Business, Health Sciences, Leadership, or Quality Management - Mandatory.
- Masters in Business, Health Sciences, Leadership, or Quality Management preferred.
- Health Law Certificate - Preferred.
- Quality Management Certificate - Preferred.
- Certified Risk Manager - Preferred.
- Minimum of three to five years working with acute healthcare legal and insurance claims.
- Minimum of three to five years identifying and managing risk in an acute healthcare setting.
- Minimum of three years experience preparing reports for senior leadership or governance.
- Experience with enterprise risk management and accreditation activities.
- Demonstrated skills in coaching, mentoring, facilitation, and team building.
- Proven ability to achieve objectives within set time frames.
- Working knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations, including Public Hospital Act, Excellent Care for All Act, and PHIPA.
- Extensive knowledge of Health Law and healthcare insurance policies.
- Training and knowledge in risk management, risk mitigation, project management, and application of relevant tools.
- Demonstrated systems thinker, with a strong commitment to quality and sustainability.
- Strong organizational commitment, including clarity of values and direction.
- Knowledge of hospital processes and basic medical terminology.
- Demonstrated understanding of and aptitude for change management with a detailed understanding of implementing new processes in complex healthcare environments.
