Job Summary:

This position is responsible for safely operating heavy equipment used in highway maintenance work. The Highway Maintenance Worker/Operator will perform labor-intensive duties, ensuring the Highway Maintenance Program is delivered according to contract specifications.

Working Environment/Conditions:

The ideal candidate will be able to work in a variety of weather conditions, including extreme cold and heat. They will be required to work long hours, including shift work, on-call, and night shifts. The candidate will also be responsible for dealing with traffic on poor road conditions and responding to emergencies.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate heavy equipment, including snowplows and other maintenance equipment.
  • Perform labor-intensive duties, including roadside maintenance and road surface maintenance.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment to company standards.
  • Ensure vehicles, equipment, and facilities are secured according to company policy.
  • Reside within 30 kilometers of assigned shop.
  • Work regularly scheduled hours, including shift work and on-call duties.

Requirements:

  • Valid Class 1 (preferred) or Class 3 driver's license with air endorsement.
  • Clean and valid driver's abstract.
  • Experience in snowplow operation - minimum 50 hours behind the wheel.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Valid Standard First Aid Certificate (preferred).
