We are seeking a Mechanical Engineering Co-op to support our Residential Energy Product Development team within the Schneider Electric Prosumer NAM Hub in Canada. This role requires a minimum commitment of 8 months.

In this position, you will be responsible for supporting the design process throughout engineering from initial concept to final production release. You will create and improve mechanical designs and drawings using PTC Creo Parametric/PDM within a collaborative R&D team. Your tasks will also include conceptualizing product innovations to meet market requirements, validating mechanical components, analyzing data, and writing test reports. Additionally, you will estimate personal timelines to ensure effective project scheduling and apply engineering principles for structural integrity, thermal performance, material performance, and manufacturability.

To succeed in this role, you should have a strong foundation in mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering (2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students) with a preference for those with prior product design experience. Your skills and knowledge should include designing with sheet metal, injection-molded plastic, die-casts, busbars, and harnessing for prototype and high-volume production. Sound engineering design methodologies such as minimum constraint design, tolerance stack-up analysis, and GD&T coupled with a design for excellence mentality are essential. Familiarity with designing for compliance with regulatory standards (UL/IEC/NEC), particularly outdoor environmental protection, is preferred. Strong collaboration skills are required to engage various stakeholders, subject matter experts, and other mechanical engineers.
