Geotechnical Field Technician Role
At SLR Consulting (Canada), we are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Geotechnical Field Technician to join our team. As a valued member of our collaborative and engaged work environment, you will provide field and laboratory support on small and large-scale geotechnical projects with varying degrees of complexity, and multidisciplinary delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct field investigations, analyze soil samples, and collect field data in an accurate and well-organized manner.
Travel to various survey or project sites and obtain soil samples at various depths using specialized drilling equipment.
Oversee drilling activities and collect soil and/or groundwater samples.
Work on multiple projects to support the execution of scope, budget, and schedule to meet client expectations.
Collaborate with construction staff, including structural engineers, architects, and landscapers.
Conduct field work associated with a wide range of geotechnical projects, including borehole drilling, test pitting, independent field reviews of various stages of civil construction, observing and monitoring work practices on construction and development projects.
Technical interpretation of specifications and drawings.
File and manage all project-related field notes, including some data entry and preparation of field reports.
Analyze data and prepare technical reports, work plans, and project specifications.
Coordinate and liaise with contractors, clients, and regulators.

Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree or diploma in a related engineering field. Registration as CET or EIT in Ontario, or eligibility for registration is required.
Relevant coursework or engineering work experience in soil and rock mechanics, site investigation methods, and laboratory test procedures.
Experience conducting materials testing, including compaction testing and geotechnical laboratory testing (grain size analysis, Atterberg limits, unit weight).
Knowledge of gINT, AutoCAD, soil analysis software, and databases as required.
Familiarity with total station and RTK GPS survey methods.
Physical ability to walk over rough terrain, climb ladders, and lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Valid driver's license and regular access to a reliable vehicle.
