About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Practical Nurse to join our team at Homewood Health Centre. As a Registered Practical Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care to individuals with addiction and mental health diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide nursing care to patients with addictions and/or mental health diagnoses, adhering to CNO standards and RNAO Best Practice Guidelines.
  • Contribute to fluctuating patient care needs, ensuring seamless services and programs are delivered to our clients and customers.
  • Administer psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications and treatments, ensuring necessary clinical assessments are initiated following admission and at various other times.
  • Engage with interdisciplinary teams and individual team members as appropriate, acting as a preceptor, mentor, coach, or resource nurse as needed.
  • Participate in clinical discussions, team meetings, and patient/family conferences, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.

Requirements:

  • Current registration as an RPN with the College of Nurses of Ontario, in good standing.
  • Up to 6 months of experience in general nursing practice preferred.
  • Current CPR certification; CPMHN (C) would be an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act (MHA), documentation standards (CNO), and privacy legislation (PHIPA).
  • Experience working with patients who have a broad range of addiction and psychiatric diagnoses preferred, but a strong desire to work in mental health goes a long way.
  • Ability to effectively manage crisis situations and deal with acutely ill patients.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and respectful communication style with patients, families, and staff.
  • Previous training in mental health nursing, boundaries, suicide awareness, and medication administration is an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficient computer skills and comfortable learning new systems.
  • Flexibility with respect to work schedule.
  • Knowledge of CBT/DBT and experience with group facilitation is an asset.
