Respiratory Therapist

We are seeking a highly skilled Respiratory Therapist to join our team at Georgian Bay General Hospital. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a critical role in assessing and treating patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary disorders.

• Evaluate patients' respiratory conditions through physical examinations and diagnostic tests.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in consultation with physicians.
• Administer respiratory therapies, including aerosol medications, chest physiotherapy, and mechanical ventilation.
• Perform bronchopulmonary drainage and assist patients with breathing exercises.
• Operate and maintain respiratory therapy equipment, such as ventilators and oxygen concentrators.
• Educate patients and their families about respiratory conditions and management techniques.
• Provide guidance on the use of respiratory equipment and home care practices.
• Provide emergency respiratory care, including artificial respiration and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
• Respond to respiratory emergencies and provide critical care support.
• Work closely with other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment plans.
• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment plans and progress notes.
• Report any changes in patient conditions to the appropriate medical staff.
• Adhere to hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in respiratory care and treatment protocols.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of best practices in respiratory care.
• Assist in training and mentoring new respiratory therapists and other healthcare staff.

• Current certificate of registration in good standing with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Ontario and the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists.
• Recent experience in an acute care facility, including ED and ICU.
• Proven ability to adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment.
• Must be able to fulfill all physical requirements of the job, as per current Physical Demands Analysis.
• Must meet expectations for appropriate, respectful, and professional conduct, as set out in the GBGH Code of Conduct.
• Demonstrated commitment to exceptional customer service.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively using both oral and written formats with patients, families, colleagues, and the interprofessional team.

• Commitment to professional growth and development of self and others.
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (A.C.L.S.) certification.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (N.R.P.) certification.
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (P.A.L.S.) certification.
• Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history.
