Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Special Education Assistant to join our team at the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board. As a Special Education Assistant, you will work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to provide instructional support, physical needs support, and facilitate communication for students with special needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide instructional support to students with special needs, including implementing strategies as directed by teachers and preparing program support materials.
  • Assist in supervision and maintain discipline in the classroom, while promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Contribute to the total care and well-being of students, including implementing strategies to support their physical and emotional needs.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff to ensure seamless support and services.
Requirements
  • Diploma in Behaviour Science Technology, Developmental Service Worker, Child and Youth Worker, Social Service Worker, or Early Childhood Educator, or a related field.
  • Two to three years of experience working with children/adolescents with learning or developmental disabilities in a formal environment.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information discreetly.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the role, including lifting students up to 25 kg (55 lbs).
  • Knowledge of relevant Special Education resource tools and willingness to accept technical training as required.
