Water Resources Specialist

Job Summary:

Hatfield Consultants is seeking a highly skilled Water Resources Specialist to join our team in Fort McMurray, Alberta. As a key member of our Water Resources Group, you will play a critical role in supporting the design and implementation of hydrology, hydrogeology, and climate components of our environmental management projects in Northern Alberta.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure compliance with Hatfield's Health and Safety Management Plan, relevant laws, and client health and safety protocols.
  • Design, implement, and lead field programs for hydrogeologic, hydrologic, or climate monitoring.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to collect data and assess potential project-related and climate change-related impacts on water resources and environmental values.
  • Analyze and interpret hydrogeologic, hydrometric, or climate data, and prepare technical reports.
  • Provide technical guidance to the team on environmental monitoring and permitting.
  • Support ongoing data management and reporting functions.
  • Contribute to research and analytical tasks, including data collection, compilation, analysis, statistical, and deterministic modeling.
  • Effectively communicate technical information (verbal and written).
Requirements:
  • Technical diploma, B.Sc. or higher in sciences or engineering with hydrology, hydrogeology, or climatology experience and relevant qualifications for work in Alberta.
  • Demonstrated experience with hydrogeologic, hydrometric, or climate monitoring instrumentation, datalogger programming, and telemetry systems.
  • Aptitude and experience in project management/project coordination and administration.
  • Ability to lead/mentor junior staff.
  • Experience and interest in field work, including remote locations.
  • Familiarity with Alberta and Federal regulatory environments.
  • Other experience that would be an asset includes construction environmental monitoring, soil, sediment, and environmental effects monitoring and reporting.
  • Applicants must possess a full license and be comfortable driving 1/2 ton trucks.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Comfortable using technology and a desire to learn various environmental monitoring systems.
  • Ability to work in teams with varying levels of experience and maintain a positive attitude.
  • Ability and interest to undertake extensive fieldwork in various weather conditions, including remote locations and camp stays.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment requiring flexibility and willingness to work overtime in support of field programs.
  • Attention to detail and understanding of the importance of adherence to field standard operating procedures and good data collection.
  • A valid Canadian driver's license and ability to drive a 1⁄2 ton truck, meeting third-party automobile insurance coverage requirements.
  • Jetboat operation experience would be considered an asset but is not required.
