Job Summary:
Prairie Mountain Health is seeking a skilled Nurse II to join our team. As a Nurse II, you will provide high-quality nursing care to clients engaged in addiction recovery and treatment. This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a commitment to a client-centered philosophy and approach.
Responsibilities:
- Assess client's medical needs upon admission and implement planned medical care.
- Respond to medical emergencies and order, prepare, and monitor the use of prescribed and over-the-counter medications.
- Maintain medical portions of client files and network with the medical community regarding client's pre-treatment, treatment, and post-treatment medical needs.
- Develop and deliver health-related education programs and provide individual and group counseling.
- Respond to crisis situations, including suicide ideation, and meet administrative requirements with respect to correspondence, statistics, activity reports, and attendance.
- Train non-medical employees on the self-administration of medication process and provide professional nursing services for clients with complex and unpredictable health needs.
- Communicate respectfully and positively with clients and staff, presenting oneself in an approachable and friendly manner.
- Balance the needs of clients, other staff persons, and those of the organization, while maintaining a commitment to ongoing professional development and reciprocal learning experiences.
- Ability to manage one's own emotions and strong feelings, maintain a calm and tactful composure under challenging circumstances, and think clearly and stay focused under pressure.
- Maintain current and accurate confidential records of client files and work collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team within the organization.
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships and regular communication with community and other related organizations relevant to client's needs.
Requirements:
- Registered and licensed to practice in Manitoba with a Bachelor of Nursing (BN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), or Registered Nurse (RN).
- Knowledge of College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba standards, Scope of practice documents, Regulated Health Professionals Act, PHIA, Mental Health Act code of ethics.
- Two years of equivalent full-time experience in working with vulnerable populations (i.e., Mental Health, Addictions/Recovery, and homelessness populations).
- Knowledge of and experience in working with individuals engaged in addictions recovery and treatment.
- Valid C.P.R. certificate and successful completion of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST).
- Proficiency with Microsoft programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint), as well as Internet applications and other Information Technology.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, ability to work independently, and problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge and competence of skills and concepts related to the position (recovery-oriented practice, trauma-informed, harm-reduction philosophy, clinical assessment skills, and a client-centered practice within a nursing scope).
- Demonstrated communication skills, ability to respect and promote confidentiality, and ability to perform the duties of the position on a regular basis.
- Ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population and work effectively and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, clients, and within an interdisciplinary team.
