Job Title: Lead Equipment Planner - Formation and Aging Manufacturing Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Equipment Planner to join our team in St. Thomas, ON. As a key member of our manufacturing team, you will be responsible for planning and implementing cell formation and aging manufacturing equipment for our battery cell production plants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement manufacturing strategies for battery cell high-volume production.
  • Lead multi-equipment planning from concept phase to process implementation in mass production.
  • Collaborate with equipment suppliers to install and commission cell manufacturing equipment.
  • Supervise the equipment supplier to ensure smooth production start.
  • Act as an internal expert on certification and permitting of cell manufacturing equipment in Canada.
  • Participate in design reviews and FAT as a subject matter expert.
  • Lead the effort of SAT and work with equipment suppliers for specific process areas.
  • Plan and manage tasks required after equipment handover, including process optimization, ergonomic improvements, change request processing, and cost reduction.
  • Collaborate with PowerCo SE headquarters and other PowerCo SE global factories and partners.
  • Interface and exchange with other PowerCo departments, including development, process, quality, automation, logistics, digitalization, maintenance, HSE, etc.
  • Lead projects for cell formation and aging manufacturing equipment continuous improvement.
  • Present necessary materials and information to project team and management.
  • Investigate and identify root causes of equipment failures and summarize/communicate lessons learned.
  • Facilitate interaction with internal and external technical resources to exchange and transfer best practices.
  • Train other employees on technical topics.
  • Develop cell production training plans.
  • Provide technical support to task forces as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in electrical, mechanical, materials, chemical, or electrochemical engineering, or a related major.
  • PhD degree with 5+ years'/Master's degree with 8+ years'/Bachelor's degree with 10+ years' experience in Li ion battery cell industry, ideally within a global organization.
  • Direct experience in designing/planning cell formation and aging equipment and extensive experience in battery cell manufacturing.
  • Direct experience in cell baking, electrolyte filling, leak test, formation, grading, aging, ASRS, temperature control, DCIR/OCV, wrapping, sorting, EOL testing, packaging (six or more areas).
  • Proficient in manufacturing feasibility, method plan validation, design principles, measurement process validation, P-FEMA, MES.
  • Experience in leading projects and technical topics.
  • Extensive experience in working in corporate suppliers-customer relationships, strong record of supplier management.
  • Experience in initial phase of a battery cell production plant would be considered an asset.
  • Working experience with automotive OEMs is an asset.
  • Ability to travel both within Canada/US and internationally up to ~ 20%.
