About the Role

BHP Exploration plays a pivotal role in building a resilient portfolio of assets for the company. Our focus is on acquiring high-quality Tier 1 copper assets through global greenfields exploration, enabling early-stage entry and acquisition options.

We seek a seasoned Lead Principal Exploration Geochemist to lead our global exploration teams based in Tucson, Santiago, Lima, London, Perth, and Adelaide. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership, defining best-practice applied exploration geochemistry and integrating geochemical data into geology multi-disciplinary geoscience models.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Working alongside disciplinary experts in the Exploration Excellence and Innovation team to drive critical thinking in Mineral Systems science and exploration.
  • Developing and driving forward best-practice applied geochemistry and geochronology techniques.
  • Collaborating with BHP's Geoscience Centre of Excellence to support geoscience excellence across the organization.
  • Contribution to building a high-quality exploration portfolio by playing an integral role in the technical assurance of investment opportunities.
  • Partnership with the Exploration Excellence and Innovation team to contribute to the development and execution of an applied research and innovation roadmap, enhancing exploration techniques.
Requirements:
  • A degree in Geosciences or Chemistry from a reputable university, preferably with postgraduate qualification.
  • A track record of designing and executing exploration projects that have contributed to successful mineral discovery.
  • Effective communication and translation of science expertise in copper mineral systems to derisk investment opportunities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills at various levels within the organization, enabling coaching and translating science to corporate.
  • Involvement in innovation and research to deliver breakthrough knowledge is desirable.
