The Medical Physicist plays a crucial role in the Radiation Treatment Program, providing scientific and technical support to ensure the highest quality care for patients. This position requires a strong background in medical physics, with expertise in equipment maintenance, quality assurance, and radiation safety.
Key Responsibilities- Specification, acceptance testing, commissioning, and calibration of equipment used in the Radiotherapy Department
- Implementation of QA Programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Planning and implementation of new treatment techniques and technologies
- Collaboration with Radiation Oncologists and Dosimetrists to develop and implement treatment plans
- Conducting ongoing research and providing education to residents, students, and visitors
To be successful in this role, the Medical Physicist must have a PhD in Medical Physics or a related field, with demonstrated scientific problem-solving ability and experience in radiation oncology physics. Certification in radiation oncology physics by the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine is also required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize workload.
