Job Summary

As an Occasional Teacher, you will provide instructional support to students in a classroom setting, substituting for permanent teachers during periods of absence or relief. This role offers a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, collaborating with colleagues and students to achieve academic success.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver daily lesson plans as provided by the permanent teacher, ensuring continuity of instruction and student learning.
  • Function as a professional employee of the school board, adhering to confidentiality and professional ethics standards.
  • Conduct an organized and professional classroom environment, promoting student engagement and motivation.
  • Complete daily attendance registers and ensure accurate student accounting.
  • Treat all students equitably, respecting their diversity and individual needs.
  • Develop and maintain a positive behavior management system, promoting a safe and respectful learning environment.
  • Report all activities and concerns to the Principal, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Supervise students at all times, providing guidance and support as needed.
Qualifications and Terms

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A current Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) designation.
  • FASD training/certification, with CPI training considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Anishnaabe language and culture, or a willingness to learn.
  • Demonstrated experience in instructing students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the core curriculum.
  • A successful Vulnerable Sector Screening Check, conducted by the Ontario Provincial Police or a designated agency.
