Job Description

Reporting to the Manager of WSFU/SOTU, the Team Lead supports the Manager to anticipate the inpatient unit's needs over time and collaborates with the unit's interprofessional team to provide effective coordination of client/patient-centered care, consistent with CAMH's vision and strategic directions.

The Team Lead assumes responsibility for communication, liaison, and coordination of client/patient admissions, discharges, transfers, and appointments during assigned shifts and future shifts as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate service delivery, ensuring a high standard of quality and safety.
  • Ensure that the nurse/patient assignment is clear and reflects the principles of accountability for care.
  • Coordinate and assign breaks, break coverage, close observations, and client appointments/activities off the unit for relevant staff.
  • Monitor and assess unit needs based on the unit milieu and advocate for change in the staffing complement due to changing unit needs.
  • Link new staff with appropriate unit resources and facilitate orientation to the unit.
  • Coordinate and/or assign, in collaboration with clinical supervisors/preceptors, an appropriate CAMH unit staff to assist students of all disciplines.
  • Collaborate with the manager regarding staff participation in off-unit meetings/training and educational events.
  • Coordinate unit clinical rounds/forums and care conferences as appropriate or applicable.

The Team Lead may carry a patient assignment as dependent on the unit milieu, census, and staffing complement.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Current B.C.L.S. (CPR) certificate.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who possess or are currently pursuing a BScN and CNA certification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing.
  • At least two years (or 3900 hours) of clinical experience within the mental health and addictions field is preferred.

This position will be based at the Queen Street Site and will be a regular day shift.
