Recreation Therapist

The Recreation Therapist is a key member of our team, responsible for assessing, developing, and implementing person-centered therapeutic recreation programs to meet the holistic needs and interests of our residents.
Responsibilities- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to provide goal-oriented outcomes and support the completion of monthly calendars to reflect resident needs, interests, and abilities.
- Develop and implement recreation and leisure programs for individuals and groups, incorporating practice-based evidence and current trends.
- Assist with admission and orientation of new residents and tenants, and report and document resident progress, function, and program participation.
- Collaborate with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams to prepare for pre/post resident care conferences and quarterly and annual assessments.
- Motivate and encourage resident participation through initiatives such as Resident Council to ensure resident needs and rights are being maintained and heard.
- Actively participate in orientation of new staff, community programs, meetings, committees, and educational in-services.
- Maintain a safe environment for residents, family, and staff, through accident prevention, knowledge of emergency procedures, and the safe use of supplies and equipment.
- Develop and maintain relationships and promote Recreation Therapy with external partnerships and agencies to enhance resident programming.
- A two-year Recreation or equivalent Diploma.
- Two year related experience in Long Term Care setting preferred.
- Experience programming for Alzheimer Disease and related Dementia's is an asset.
- Member or eligibility for British Columbia Therapeutic Recreation Association (BCTRA).
- Valid First Aid Level 1 Certificate with CPR required.
- Serving It Right Certificate.
- Food Safe Level 1 Certificate an asset.
- Valid Class 4 (Unrestricted) BC Driver's License as required.
- All successful applicants must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to Provincial guidelines.
- Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift, and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
- Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Intermediate computer skills including Word, Publisher, and Outlook.
