Job Summary:

Kativik Ilisarniliriniq (La commission scolaire du Nunavik) is seeking a qualified Special Education Technician to join our team. As a Special Education Technician, you will work with students with physical or mental disabilities, social maladjustments, or learning difficulties by applying special education techniques and methods both inside and outside of the students' regular class.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist students in being integrated into the regular class to the appropriate degree and modify instructional activities to make them accessible to the students;
  • Work one-to-one with students and carry out planned activities, encouraging and supporting them in areas where necessary;
  • Plan activities to help students progress to the best of their ability, with appropriate support;
  • Collaborate closely with regular teachers, special education teachers, teacher training counselors, and the KI psychosocial team;
  • Participate in regular evaluation sessions to provide feedback on students' progress to other staff members and parents;
  • May be required to assist students with physical needs, such as dressing, eating, traveling to and from school, etc.

Requirements:

  • College Diploma in Special Education;
  • Experience working with special needs children;
  • Fluency in two of the three languages of the board (Inuktitut, English, and French);
  • Ability to work closely with other staff members and school board personnel;
  • Problem-solving skills and adaptability to different situations;
  • Behaviour management skills;
  • Experience working in Nunavik (asset).

Working Conditions:

This is a full-time regular position with a 35-hour workweek from Monday to Friday. The salary is in accordance with the AENQ collective agreement for support staff, and benefits are prorated based on the percentage of the task.
