Vancouver Island Ferry Company is seeking a skilled Chief Marine Engineer to join our team in Nanaimo. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for the maintenance and operation of our vessels, ensuring optimal performance and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Engine and Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance of engines and auxiliary equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  2. System Operations: Operate and maintain electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic control systems, as well as replenishment-at-sea equipment.
  3. Climate Control Management: Operate and maintain refrigeration, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure comfort and functionality.
  4. Preventive Maintenance Monitoring: Monitor and execute tasks within the preventive maintenance system, ensuring timely completion and updates as necessary.
  5. Safety Management Implementation: Ensure adherence to the safety management system within your department to promote a safe working environment.
  6. Engine Parameter Monitoring: Monitor key functioning parameters of the main engine (pressure, temperature, levels) and promptly report any irregularities.
  7. Regulatory Compliance: Operate all engines, equipment, pumps, and shipboard systems according to manufacturer recommendations and relevant regulations.

Requirements:

  • Hold a valid Transport Canada STCW 2nd Class Marine Engineering certificate (minimum required)
