Zymeworks is seeking a highly skilled Senior Research Associate I, Protein Engineering to join our team. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for planning, executing, and optimizing protein purification workflows, as well as performing analytical and biophysical characterization of antibodies and other protein therapeutics.
Key Responsibilities- Protein Purification and Characterization: Independently plan, perform, and optimize purification workflows of multispecific antibody therapeutics using AKTA (FPLC) systems, gravity flow columns, and high-throughput plate-based methods.
- Analytical and Biophysical Characterization: Perform analytical and biophysical characterization of antibodies and other protein therapeutics for quality control, stability, and developability studies.
- Binding Studies: Plan, execute, and evaluate binding studies using SPR, BLI, Kinexa, and/or flow cytometry methods, either independently or in collaboration with teammates.
- Data Analysis and Interpretation: Analyze and review data, draw conclusions, and make recommendations for future investigations.
- Method Development and Improvement: Initiate and execute novel methods and/or suggest innovative and impactful changes to methods independently or in collaboration with team members.
- Collaboration and Communication: Participate in cross-departmental collaborative activities and present data at departmental and project team meetings.
- Lab Maintenance and Compliance: Maintain a clean, organized, and operational lab, and conduct all activities in accordance with scientific standards, OH&S regulations, and established policies and practices.
- Professional Development: Seek to understand ongoing projects through attention to scientific literature, industry publications, and internally generated data, and employ this understanding to improve contribution to project goals.
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Associate I, Protein Engineering with a strong background in protein purification, characterization, and binding studies. The ideal candidate will have a MSc in a relevant scientific discipline and 3-5 years of relevant work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Skills and Abilities- Protein Purification and Characterization: Good working knowledge and hands-on experience in several of the following areas: protein A/G/L, IEX, IMAC, and SEC, and familiarity with AKTA (FPLC) systems.
- Protein Analytics: Protein analytics: PAGE, CE-SDS, HPLC-SEC, cIEF, HIC, ELISA, DSC, DSF, DLS, MALS.
- Binding Affinity Measurements: Binding affinity measurements by SPR, BLI, or Kinexa.
- Additional Skills: Additional experience with flow cytometry, FACS, or other fluorescence cell-based methods would be a plus, as well as experience with developability and stability assessments of antibody-based therapeutics.
- Soft Skills: Good organizational and time management skills, work effectively in a fast-paced, fast-changing environment, good critical observation with analytical and problem-solving capabilities, and good communication skills, including scientific/technical writing and oral skills.

The Canadian base salary range for this full-time position is $73,000 - $XX,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
