Job Title: Assistant Director of Care

Job Summary:
Extendicare Canada Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to fill the role of Assistant Director of Care at our long term care home in Georgetown, Ontario. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting the Director of Care in the management of all aspects of nursing care within the home, ensuring quality resident care through the effective and efficient delivery of established standards within legislative and budgetary requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the Director of Care in the implementation and evaluation of nursing department quality improvement initiatives, risk management systems, data collection and analysis, report writing, and procedural updates.
- Take the lead in the coordination and implementation of best practice and risk management initiatives related to resident care, including falls, restraint use, wound management, and Infection Control.
- Effectively manage utilization of nursing supplies and maintain a system of care assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation at the resident and unit program level that maximizes staff resources and contributes to the interdisciplinary team approach to resident care.
- Support the RAI-MDS program and maintain an active presence in the Resident Home Areas, mentoring staff while overseeing the provision of quality resident care.
- Identify areas of improvement for staff development and work with the Director of Care to ensure overall effectiveness of the nursing department.

Requirements:
- Registered Nurse registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario; BScN an asset.
- Minimum of three years experience in long term care; previous management experience an asset.
- Current knowledge of clinical issues for geriatric residents, infection control, principles of adult education, and quality improvement.
- Knowledge of RAI MDS is required.
- Demonstrated superior leadership and organizational skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, and computerized resident care and assessment programs.
- Knowledge of applicable legislation, current nursing and healthcare practices, and demonstrates concern and interest in providing quality care and service to residents.

Working Conditions:
- Full-time position
- Successful candidate will be required to work one week/month
