Job Summary
The Clinical Scholar RN is a key member of the Operating Room team at Brightshores, responsible for providing mentorship and support to new graduate nurses and nurses in need of clinical skills development. This supernumerary role requires a seasoned OR nurse with expertise in pre, intra, and post-operative care.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the OR Coordinator and Resource Nurses to provide guidance and support to new graduate nurses and nurses in need of clinical skills development.
- Develop and implement educational programs to enhance the clinical skills of OR nurses.
- Conduct regular assessments to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to address these gaps.
- Provide feedback and coaching to nurses to enhance their clinical skills and performance.
- Stay up-to-date with current ORNAC standards and best practices in the operating room.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient safety and satisfaction.
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures related to OR nursing practice.
Requirements
- Current Registration with the Ontario College of Nurses: Registered Nurse.
- Successful completion of the Operating Room certificate (and preferably at least two years of OR experience).
- Preferably 5 years Operating Room Experience.
- Ability to scrub and circulate in all services.
- Knowledge of the current ORNAC standards.
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing work environment.
- Ability to function as a team member.
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable to flex time to meet unit's needs.
- Proven verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
- Ability to respond to urgent/emergency situations.
- Must be willing to take call and be available to reach the hospital within 20 minutes.
- Recent satisfactory performance and attendance record.
- Adherence to Brightshores 'CARE' Behaviours (Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, Excellence) and 'LEAD' Competencies (Lead by example, Empower, Achieve results, Develop others).
- Advocates and supports a culture of patient safety and demonstrates an understanding of how the department service and assigned responsibilities contribute to overall patient safety at Brightshores through patient safety knowledge, skills, and attitudes.
