About the Role:

The Rehabilitation Assistant is a vital member of our interprofessional care team, working under the direction of a professional nurse and in cooperation with the patient's physiotherapist and/or occupational therapist. This role plays a crucial part in enhancing the quality of life for our patients by implementing treatment plans and assisting in monitoring patient progress.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Treatment Plan Implementation: Carry out designated components of a rehabilitative treatment plan under the direction of a physiotherapist or occupational therapist, including activities of daily living, mobility, and strengthening and balancing exercises.
  • Patient Monitoring: Observe and report to the appropriate team member cognitive and functional changes in patient ability or behavior that may warrant a progression or regression of the treatment plan.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with a multidisciplinary team to plan, implement, modify, and evaluate treatment plans, providing input and expertise in rehabilitation care.
  • Therapeutic Modalities: Prepare and apply therapeutic treatment modalities as assigned by a physiotherapist or occupational therapist, including transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TENS), neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), hot packs, ice, and wax treatments.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Skills and Abilities: Effective communication, ability to deal with others, physical ability to carry out duties, organizational skills, and ability to operate related equipment.
