Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Orthopedic Technologist to join our team at BC Children's Hospital. As an Orthopedic Technologist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the orthopedic team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians with patient care, including applying and removing casts, splints, and braces, as well as instructing patients on cast care and skin care.
  • Document patient care and maintain accurate records.
  • Prepare and maintain orthopedic equipment, including cast saws and plaster knives.
  • Assist with positioning and posturing patients for operations and support patients' limbs during surgical preparation.
  • Apply tourniquets as directed by physicians and nurses.
  • Teach casting and splinting techniques to patients and staff.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a recognized program in Orthopedic Technology and current registration with the Canadian Society of Orthopedic Technicians.
  • Two years of recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPR Training – Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) – Level I.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in foundational documents, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan, and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study.
