About the Role

The District of North Vancouver is seeking a skilled Electrical Inspector to join our team. As an Electrical Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with electrical codes, acts, standards, and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect electrical equipment and installations to ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, acts, standards, and regulations.
  • Supervise and inspect residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations and equipment.
  • Check plans and specifications submitted for approval before work permit issue or rejection.
  • Provide technical assistance, advice, and information to the public, contractors, designers, and engineers on matters related to electrical work.
  • Issue electrical permits, certifications, and compliance orders.
  • Record field inspections and prepare reports and correspondence.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code and other related regulations and acts.
  • Considerable knowledge of methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in electrical installation, construction, operation, and maintenance projects.
  • Ability to check and interpret plans and specifications; recognize technical requirements and suggest required changes.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, contractors, engineers, and electricians.
  • Skilled in the use of tools and equipment related to work performance.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 and an electrical apprenticeship with sound related journeyman experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A valid Driver's License, along with use of personal vehicle if corporate vehicle is not available.
  • Eligibility to be appointed as an Electrical Safety Officer.

Compensation

The pay range for this unionized position is $ to per hour (2024 rates) plus 12% in lieu of all benefits increasing to 16% following the completion of 1600 hours of work.
