Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is a vibrant and welcoming district, and we're looking for a dedicated individual to join our team as a Downtown Maintenance & Cleanliness Team Member.



Job Overview


This role contributes to making Downtown Winnipeg a clean and safe environment through the continuous upkeep of outdoor public and private spaces. As a part of the Enviro team, you will be primarily responsible for litter pick up, removal and the upkeep of bus shelters and helping create an environment that is clean year-round for our downtown community.



Key Responsibilities



  • Litter Removal and Cleanup: Keep downtown spaces (sidewalks, parks, etc.) clean and safe by picking up litter, sweeping, removing snow and clearing debris.
  • Bus Shelter Maintenance: Clean, sanitize, and remove debris from bus shelters and bus stop areas.
  • Kubota Operations: Operate a Kubota throughout downtown to assist with litter removal and clean up.
  • Bio-Hazard Cleanup: Remove bio-hazards and dispose of them properly.
  • Posters and Flyers: Remove posters from non-approved areas as requested.
  • Infrastructure Support: Assist with the transport, cleaning, repairs, and installation of public realm infrastructure.
  • Event Support: Assist with event set-up and tear down.
  • Customer Service: Provide information and directions to the public as requested.
  • Maintenance Reporting: Record and report any maintenance safety concerns related to sidewalks, streets, public infrastructure, and private property.
  • Statistical Tracking: Record statistics on daily maintenance activities.


Qualifications and Skills



  • Grounds Maintenance Experience: Considered an asset.
  • Safe Work Procedures: Understanding of safe work procedures and practices.
  • Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Solid interpersonal, verbal communication, and customer service skills.
  • Driver's License: Possess a valid Class 5 Drivers' License.


Working Conditions



  • Weather: Required to work outdoors in all weather conditions year-round.
  • Schedule: Required to work days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to stand or walk for prolonged periods and over uneven terrain. Physically capable of performing the duties and responsibilities of the position including shoveling, bending, reaching, crouching and lifting up to 50 lbs.


Estimated Salary: $45,000 - $55,000 per annum, depending on experience.
