Job Summary

The Welding Inspector with Quality Assurance Expertise plays a pivotal role in ensuring the highest standards of quality within our organization. Reporting directly to the Quality Control Manager, this individual will be responsible for spearheading the deployment of quality systems and maintaining adherence to the Black & McDonald Limited Code of Business.

This key position involves utilizing acute analytical skills to monitor the quality control program, providing timely updates to all pertinent parties regarding QC performance. The successful candidate will also be an active member of the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB), guaranteeing that on-site quality systems, processes, and documentation are consistently employed in accordance with compliance regulations outlined in the Black & McDonald Limited Corporate Policy.

In addition to these responsibilities, organizational skills are essential for timely verification and documentation of inspection and test results as outlined in the Inspection and Tests plans.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Perform QA/QC duties at Saskatoon fabrication shop, with occasional visits to onsite as required.
  • Develop, implement, and assist with all aspects of quality assurance within the Region as per CWB, AWS, and ASME B3.1.1 & B31.3.
  • Establish and enforce policies, standards, and procedures for engineering and technical work performed in the department.
  • Identify and control nonconforming items, verifying control of such items.
  • Interface with outside organizations and subcontractors.
  • Ensure obligations related to contract and Client satisfaction concerning quality assurance are met.
  • Guarantee site actions comply both procedurally and in spirit with government, client, and company occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Collaborate with Operations to develop and monitor project quality plans and documents, including compliance by subcontractors.
  • Liaise with Authorized Inspection Agency and verify control of non-conforming items.
  • Effectively conduct material & special calibrated tools receipt inspections.
  • Investigate, evaluate, trend, and apply corrective action for customer quality-related situations.

Requirements:

  • Active registration with the Canadian Welding Bureau as a Welding Inspector with CSA Standard W178.2-01.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of welding symbols and weld faults.
  • Excellent knowledge of CSA W47.1 and W59.
  • Hold a valid CWB W59 Inspector Level 1 or higher endorsement.
