About the Opportunity

Aecon is seeking a Materials Manager to join the GO Rail Expansion (RER) project in the Greater Toronto Area. This transformational project is the largest capital infrastructure project in Ontario's historic GO Rail Expansion program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a railway materials procurement and management plan.
  • Identify supply capacity of the railway materials market and centralize management of materials acquisition, inventory, and distribution.
  • Lead the procurement process, establishing strong partnerships with key material suppliers and coordinating relations between departments and suppliers.
  • Support departments such as Planning, Cost Control, Estimating, Scheduling, Design/Technical Office, HS, QA/QC.
  • Act as the interface between Procurement and Construction teams, developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage processes for ensuring materials are secured and received in accordance with client requirements.
  • Supervise and direct activities to ensure on-time delivery at minimum cost of labor and materials, in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Manage brokerage, customs, duties, and logistics supply chain.
Requirements
  • 5-10 years of experience working in Metrolinx and Class I railroads' environments in similar roles or equivalent.
  • Availability to work in Toronto, Canada, long-term.
  • Ability to communicate fluently in English, both spoken and written, in a professional environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and adapt to different environments and shifting priorities.
  • Flexibility to adapt to different shifts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Engineering or construction management degree.
  • Demonstrated contract and financial management experience.
  • Consultancy experience in railway projects.
  • Design experience in railway projects.
  • European English Certificate level C1-C2 (CEFR) or equivalent.
  • Management training.
  • Experience working in Metrolinx and Class I railroads environments.
  • Knowledge in BIM and collaborative procedures.
