Victoria ICU Hospitalist Position

VCA Canada Central Victoria Veterinary Hospital, located on the picturesque West Coast of British Columbia, is seeking a part-time Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Hospitalist to join our skilled team. This unique opportunity caters to a veterinarian who wishes to focus on small animal intensive care, working alongside experienced critical care Registered Veterinary Technicians and supported by board-certified emergency and critical care specialists.

Job Overview

This role will involve providing comprehensive care for patients in the ICU, including reviewing patient history, conducting exams, and managing diagnostic and therapeutic plans. You will also be responsible for working closely with criticalists and technicians to manage the daily flow of the ICU and to provide exceptional patient and client care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with the Emergency Service to accept critical cases and provide continuity of care.
  • Communicate effectively with pet owners and referring hospitals regarding patient care.
  • Provide high-quality patient care that upholds the VCA Canada standard.
  • Availability to work Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
Requirements:
  • A veterinary degree eligible for registration with the College of Veterinarians of British Columbia (CVBC).
  • Minimum of three years of full-time emergency veterinary experience or 2 years plus a small animal rotating internship.
  • Experience with ICU procedures such as fluid resuscitation, blood transfusions, use of vasopressors, arrhythmia management, CPR, fluid therapy, and advanced patient monitoring.
  • Natural ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong communication skills.
Estimated Salary Range:

$120,000 - $180,000 per annum based on experience.
