Job Summary:

VG Meats is seeking a skilled and experienced Head Butcher to oversee all aspects of the butchery department. The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about meat, passionate about providing high-quality cuts, and able to manage a team of butchers while maintaining excellent customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist customers with their orders and provide excellent customer service
  • Cut, trim, and package meat to specification, ensuring high yields and minimal waste
  • Develop and maintain product specifications for all cuts of meat
  • Train and supervise staff to ensure consistent quality and performance
  • Create cost-effective schedules and manage the day-to-day operations of the butcher shop
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Monitor inventory levels and order supplies as needed
  • Maintain relationships with local farmers and suppliers to ensure a steady supply of high-quality meat
  • Work with management to develop and implement new products and services
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a head butcher or similar position
  • Extensive knowledge of meat, including cutting, trimming, and packaging
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage a team
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Red Seal in cooking or previous butchery position is a plus
