About the Role


AECOM’s Kitchener office is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and construction of buildings, working closely with other engineers, technologists, BIM specialists, and project managers to deliver projects in this sector.


Responsibilities:



  • Deliverables: Prepare presentation materials, calculations, drawings, specifications, selections, and cost estimates related to HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities.
  • Field Investigation: Perform field investigation to incorporate existing conditions into construction documents.
  • Construction Administration: Perform construction administration duties, including shop drawing review, RFI response, construction inspection, and client communication.
  • Teamwork: Work within a project team environment, possessing good presentation and client interface skills.
  • Coordination: Coordinate work with other project disciplines.
  • Technical Decisions: Make technical mechanical decisions based on building code interpretation and company standard practice.
  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving project delivery, technical, and client challenges.
  • Industry Expertise: Stay up-to-date with industry standards, approaches, and best practices.
  • Health and Safety: Ensure project work is undertaken in accordance with corporate health and safety policies and quality management systems.
  • Mentoring: Mentor and review intermediate and junior-level engineer’s work.
  • Project Management: Manage large engineering-based projects and assist in managing medium-sized projects led by architecture.

Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum six (6)+ years’ experience designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, and light industrial facilities.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Eight (8)+ years’ experience designing HVAC and plumbing for commercial, institutional, light industrial facilities, wastewater, and water pumping stations.
  • Professionally licensed engineer.
  • Working experience with codes and standards.
  • Experience using HAP, AutoCAD, REVIT, Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Building Energy Modeling and software platforms (IES, eQuest, Energy Plus, RETScreen, etc.).
  • Experience with sustainability standards (LEED, Net Zero, Passive House, Envision).
  • Fire protection design experience.
  • Familiarity with ISO quality management systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working within internal multidisciplinary teams.
  • Physically able to climb ladders and other mechanical equipment spaces.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite.
