Job Title: Recreation Aide

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Recreation Aide to join our team at Extendicare Canada Inc. As a Recreation Aide, you will play a vital role in planning and implementing recreation programs that promote the physical, emotional, and social well-being of our residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement individual and group recreation programs based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Set up and clean activity areas and transport residents to and from programs, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Monitor resident behavior and condition during programs and report any significant changes to the Program Manager and Nursing staff.
  • Participate in the development and revision of programs under the guidance of the Program Manager.
  • Develop and maintain resident records and documentation according to department policy.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet resident needs and provide excellent care.

Qualifications:

  • Proof of successful completion of an approved Recreation and/or Gerontology degree or diploma.
  • Experience working with geriatric populations, especially those with cognitive impairment or dementia.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as documentation skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in care planning and resident assessments.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Organizational skills and time management abilities.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate resident-focused recreation programs and one-to-one interventions.
  • Empathy, concern, and interest in providing quality care for residents.
  • Ability to manage volunteers during evening and weekend programming.
  • Ability to handle stress associated with regular dealings with long-term care residents.
  • Physical ability to perform duties required, including lifting and pushing for programming setup and cleanup.
  • Minimum one year of experience working in Long Term Care, an asset.
