Job Title: Park Interpreter

At RLC Park Services, we are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Park Interpreter to join our team. As a Park Interpreter, you will be responsible for developing and delivering educational programs for park visitors and schools, as well as maintaining and updating displays in the Nature House.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and deliver educational programs for park visitors and schools using various delivery methods such as storytelling, hands-on workshops, and guided outdoor walks.
  • Maintain and update displays in the Nature House, including cleaning and tidying the area.
  • Operate the point of sale/cash register in the gift shop/bookstore and make coffee and serve refreshments in the Nature House.
  • Be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, and participate in multi-day programs that may require overnighting.
  • Provide information and answer questions for park visitors and be a resource for natural history information for other RLC Park Services staff.
  • Organize and run special events and fundraisers in the park.
Qualifications and Assets:
  • Experience working with youth and public audiences.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Research and planning skills.
  • Availability and flexibility to work in an indoor and outdoor environment, evenings and weekends.
  • Experience with point of sale systems or previous cash handling.
  • Merchandising experience.
  • Photoshop/art/design skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Vancouver Island flora and fauna, local cultural history, and Vancouver Island Marine Systems.
