Job Summary

The University of British Columbia is seeking a skilled Sign Writer to join its facilities maintenance team. As a Sign Writer, you will be responsible for revising, maintaining, and installing new signs and graphics for permanent and temporary installations on the Vancouver campus.

Key Responsibilities

Requests and obtains material and equipment required for the work assigned.

Prepares signs and graphics using computerized sign writing software combined with machines such as the Vision CNC Router/Engraver, Epilog Laser Engraver/Cutter, Roland TrueVIS Large Format Printer/Cutter, and Graphtec Vinyl Cutter and Plotter.

Upgrades existing signs and fabricates and installs new signs.

As required, will make estimates and produce inspection reports.

May be required to perform emergency call-outs.

Ensures that the workplace is safe and follows safe work practices.

Communicates with customers as required to ensure the efficient delivery of service.

Requirements

Formal training in Signwriting, a valid and subsisting relevant trades qualification or a diploma in BCIT's Graphic Communications Course or equivalent.

Valid BC driver's license and a minimum five years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one's own.

Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work from written instructions and specifications and to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to develop and maintain cooperative and productive working relationships.
