We are seeking a skilled journalist to join our Ottawa bureau, covering federal politics and government news.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented journalist to work with our team, covering a wide range of topics, from breaking news to in-depth features.

Key Responsibilities
  • Report and write authoritatively on breaking news and federal politics
  • Develop and maintain contacts and sources, skillfully interviewing people in often-demanding situations
  • Produce high-quality, engaging content that meets the standards of the Toronto Star
  • Collaborate with colleagues to produce enterprise stories that are accurate, comprehensive, and compelling
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in federal politics and government news
Requirements
  • 5+ years of professional experience as a reporter
  • Excellent news judgment, storytelling, and multimedia skills
  • Advanced writing skills and story-telling ability that lead to an engaging daily product
  • A self-starter who is flexible and able to generate quality story ideas
  • Able to simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks
  • Relentlessly high standards; detail-oriented and deadline-driven with the ability to produce succinct, clear, and accurate copy on deadline
