Project Engineer Role

As a Mechanical Engineer at Peter Lucas, you will have the opportunity to work on diverse projects in the mining, energy, and heavy industrial sectors. The successful candidate will be based in Calgary and will provide project engineering support for a project in oil and gas, including leading and coordinating multi-disciplinary teams in the production of technical deliverables for the various projects assigned to them. This role is based in the office with trips to the site as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Make technical decisions and solve technical issues with minimal guidance or oversight.
  • Establish specifications for equipment to be designed or procured, including rotating, bulk material handling, crushing, conveying, screening, and similar.
  • Write scopes of work and construction work packages.
  • Review contractor design documents to ensure they are consistent with current standards, practices, and procedures.
  • Work with other disciplines to coordinate requirements for the equipment, such as process, reliability, instrumentation, electrical, structural, piping, etc.
  • Work with vendors to clarify scopes and respond to RFIs.
  • Participate in design reviews as required, including model reviews, HAZOPs, SILs, etc.
  • Support the operations team for any required updates of operating procedures and equipment isolation plans.
  • Support the reliability team in troubleshooting equipment issues.
Requirements
  • Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar with P.Eng. designation.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Self-starting energetic attitude.
  • 5+ years of direct Oil Sands experience is preferred, with some experience in ore preparation and extraction.
  • Field experience would be an asset.
  • Experience with reliability and asset management would be an asset.
  • Willingness to travel to the site frequently.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada (e.g., permanent resident, valid work permit, etc.).
