About This Career Opportunity

Black & McDonald is seeking a skilled Transportation/Transit Utility Estimator to join our Southern Ontario Utilities team. The successful candidate will prepare electrical take-offs and estimates on MTO and Transit projects, providing technical support to project operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare electrical/civil work take-offs and estimates on transportation and transit projects, including Streetlighting, Traffic Intersections, Intelligence Traffic Systems, and Duct Banks.
  • Estimate costs of materials, labour, and equipment required for projects based on drawings and specifications.
  • Establish and maintain tendering process, set up cost monitoring, reporting systems, and procedures.
  • Coordinate price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, and owners regarding tenders.
  • Participate in site review, tender review, tender hand-off, and project closing meetings, as required.
  • Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Liaise, consult, and communicate with engineers, owners, contractors, and subcontractors, and prepare value design proposals for estimates.
  • Update and maintain Bid2Win database.
  • Develop tender construction schedules.
  • Develop methodology and execution of scope of work.

Education Requirements

  • Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • Construction fundamentals diploma.
  • Electrical trades background.

Work Experience Requirements

  • 3-5+ years' estimating experience on transportation and/or transit construction projects.
  • Experience using Bid2Win estimating software is an asset.

Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements

  • Proficient user of MS Office (Word, Excel, Project Scheduling).
  • Proficient user of Bid2Win.
