Academic Faculty Position for Practical Nursing

The North Island College invites applications from qualified individuals to instruct in the Access to Practical Nursing Diploma program. This sessional instructional assignment involves teaching theory, lab, and practice courses via a face-to-face delivery method at the Comox Valley campus. Practicum placements will take place in various practice settings and may require travel. Applicants must have access to reliable transportation.
Key Responsibilities Include:
• Implementing creative strategies in the preparation and delivery of theory, lab, and practice activities;
• Using initiative in providing documentation and follow-up with regard to student concerns and problem resolution;
• Bringing facilitation skills to the management of conflict;
• Scheduling is flexible to meet the needs of the program.
Teaching Faculty are responsible for implementing the College's vision, goals, and objectives as they relate to teaching and learning. To carry out their teaching assignments, faculty use organizational skills, relational skills, and their knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curricular design. They also serve as role models for students and colleagues.
Important Notes:
In accordance with the Criminal Records and Review Act, it is mandatory that faculty hired under the Health and Human Services department have a clear Criminal Record.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Instructional Duties:
• Planning and preparing learning materials for instructional environments;
• Using a variety of approaches and materials, as appropriate, in order to address different learning needs;
• Teaching in assigned subject areas and including in courses, and in course outlines, all required subject matter or skill activity;
• Directing student learning in a positive, supportive, and caring environment;
• Being available to students regularly during scheduled office hours and classroom hours, to discuss their progress and other issues that influence their learning;
• Clearly communicating in writing learning outcomes for programs and courses, and the way in which learners will be evaluated against those outcomes;
• Designing and conducting evaluations or appraisals of students and keeping students informed of their progress;
• Submitting grades in a timely manner;
• Maintaining records of student enrollment and achievement and other records required by the College and affiliated agencies.
Typical Professional Duties:
• Working within College educational policies;
• Contributing to the development of the Education and Strategic plans;
• Advising the Department Chair regarding items that need to be ordered;
• Advising the Department Chair on enrollment management strategies;
• Advising the Department Chair on any health and safety concerns;
• Maintaining continuous professional development of competencies and qualifications;
• Participating actively as a contributing member of the College community;
• Undertaking other related responsibilities and duties assigned by the College.
Qualifications and Requirements
A current practising license as an LPN, NP, RN, or RPN with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP) is required. Additionally, one of the following credentials in adult education from an accredited post-secondary institution: Provincial Instructor diploma (PID), formal educational equivalent to PID, or proof of completion of a formal Prior Learning Assessment (PLA).
A minimum of three years recent related practice experience is also required, along with current registration with BCCNM and current CPR level HCP.
