Clinical Nurse Specialist in Correctional Health Services

This is a challenging and rewarding role for an experienced Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse who is passionate about providing high-quality healthcare services to individuals with complex needs.
About the PositionWe are seeking a skilled Clinical Nurse Specialist to join our team at the Ford Mountain Correctional Centre (FMCC). As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will provide direct trauma-informed care services to clients presenting with a wide range of physical, psychiatric, and substance use disorders.
Responsibilities- Provide comprehensive health assessments, develop treatment plans, and implement interventions to address the physical, emotional, and social needs of clients.
- Collaborate with interprofessional teams to coordinate care, facilitate referrals, and ensure continuity of services.
- Conduct health education sessions, workshops, and support groups to promote healthy behaviors and improve client outcomes.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including client charts, progress notes, and statistical reports.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, policy development, and research activities to advance clinical practice and program effectiveness.
- Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals.
- Two years' recent experience in trauma-informed acute or community health nursing, preferably in a correctional setting.
- Occupational First Aid II certification or higher (OFA III for FMCC positions).
- Working knowledge of community health nursing theory, mental health, addictions, communicable diseases, primary care, and patient-centered approaches.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected situations, prioritize tasks, and manage competing demands.
- Knowledge of Indigenous Cultural Safety principles, BCCNP's Standards for Nursing Practice, and BC Mental Health Act.
The estimated salary for this position is $85,000-$115,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including municipal pension plan, psychological health & safety programs, and holistic wellness resources.
