Skilled Tradesperson

Apex Utilities Inc. is a provincially regulated natural gas distribution utility delivering safe, reliable, clean, and affordable natural gas service to over 82,000 residential, rural, commercial, and industrial customers in more than 90 communities across Alberta.

About the Role:

This Skilled Tradesperson - Pipeline Maintenance position plays an essential role within our Operations workgroup. Responsibilities include installing gas piping systems, repairing leaks and damages on buried and above-ground pipelines and facilities, assisting in the installation, construction, maintenance, and operation of regulating stations and metering facilities, operating construction and heavy work equipment, staking projects, and coordinating with contractors and customers.

Responsibilities:

• Installing gas piping systems;
• Repairing leaks and damages on buried and above-ground pipelines and facilities;
• Assisting in the installation, construction, maintenance, and operation of regulating stations and metering facilities;
• Operating construction and heavy work equipment;
• Staking projects and coordinating with contractors and customers;
• Performing annual maintenance and leak survey program.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent;
• Minimum one (1) year in a construction-related job;
• Valid Alberta Driver's license either Class 5 with Air Brake, Class 3 with Air Brake, or Class 1; An acceptable driver's abstract is also required for this position;
• Ability to perform all necessary physical requirements of the position.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Basic knowledge of MS Suite or equivalent;
• Basic knowledge of GIS Software;
• Experience with TelDig or similar software;
• Mechanical aptitude;
• Safety certificates including Line stopping qualification to level 4, Ground Disturbance Level 2, Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), and H2S Alive and Standard First Aid.
