Job Summary

The Data Governance Specialist will support and enable high-quality, robust, effective, accurate, and accessible data to support patient care. This includes championing the development and implementation of both the Data Governance framework and AI Governance framework in Interior Health.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Identify opportunities pertaining to the use of AI solutions and information assets to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in the organization.
  2. Support the development and implementation of an enterprise-wide data governance framework focused on improving data quality and protecting sensitive data throughout its lifecycle.
  3. Establish an enterprise-wide AI governance framework to ensure AI is used responsibly and ethically, minimizing bias, and managing risks.
  4. Define measurements for AI governance and integrate them into existing systems to meet organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  5. Work with leaders to ensure clear accountability for stewardship of IH principal data and information assets.
  6. Lead the development of a data quality framework and data management lifecycle processes and policies related to collection, access, usage, storage, transfer, and destruction of data.
  7. Establish consistent data access controls and practices in an enterprise environment.
  8. Promote data and AI literacy through the communication and education of partners.
  9. Establish communities of practices, encouraging and supporting the use of data and analytics across all levels of the organization.
  10. Support alignment of data governance activities to organizational strategies and priorities.
  11. Act as an expert for both AI and Data Governance queries.
Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Health Information Science, Computer Science, Information Management, or a related discipline is required. A minimum of five years of experience in a combination of data management, linkage, machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, analysis, interpretation, and reporting is also required.

Experience working in a complex, computerized environment with large-scale data or project management and oversight experience is an asset. Training and experience in a healthcare setting, including a broad knowledge of healthcare data and analytics, is also considered an asset.

Knowledge of industry-leading data quality, AI ethics, and data protection management practices is required. Ability to work independently and within a team environment with limited supervision is also required.

Demonstrated ability to lead, plan, manage, and implement organization-wide projects is essential. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities, reprioritize tasks, establish priorities to meet deadlines is also required.

Independent problem-solving and decision-making capabilities, strong organizational and planning skills, and demonstrated ability to deal with a diverse range of internal and external partners are also required.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including the ability to develop engaging presentations and present to various audiences, is essential.

General knowledge of current healthcare issues and health information standards is also required.

Flexible, adaptable to change, innovative, and responsive to clients' needs is essential.
