Job Title: Supply Educational Assistant

We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Supply Educational Assistant to join our team at the Wellington Catholic District School Board. As a Supply Educational Assistant, you will work with special needs students in elementary and secondary schools, providing support and assistance to help them achieve their personal, social, academic, and physical development goals.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with special needs students individually and/or in a group setting
  • Support students in achieving personal, social, academic, and physical development goals
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and special education resource teachers to develop and implement individualized support plans
  • Provide physical support and assistance as needed, including lifting, toileting, and diapering
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion when working with students and their families
Requirements:
  • Successful completion of a post-secondary Educational Assistant/Support diploma program
  • May also consider other fields related to the development of children and/or special education, such as Developmental Services Worker (DSW), Child and Youth Worker (CYW), Nursing, Early Childhood Educator (ECE), and Personal Support Worker (PSW)
  • Unqualified candidates must have a successful completion of Grade 12 education or equivalent
  • Prior experience working with children or voluntary experience in a school setting is an asset
  • Post-secondary courses related to the development of children and/or special education is an asset
  • Minimum 1-year experience working with children related to physically, developmentally, and/or behaviorally challenged special needs is preferred
  • Ability and willingness to perform required physical tasks, including lifting, toileting, and diapering
  • Relevant additional training is an asset
  • Autism Spectrum Disorder Training is an asset
  • Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) training is an asset
  • Flexibility, patience, and the ability to work closely with the classroom teacher and Principal
  • Ability to function independently within the framework of a team
  • Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information
  • A positive and empathetic attitude towards students
