We are seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Physical Geography to join our innovative and collaborative department at the University of Ottawa.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish an externally funded research program with strong connections to industry, government, and/or relevant end-users, stakeholders, and rights holders. This includes developing a robust research agenda that aligns with the department's priorities and maintaining close collaborations with researchers in other departments at uOttawa, as well as those at nearby universities and in government.
The responsibilities of this position include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses that contribute to existing programs in the department, recruiting and supervising graduate students, contributing to administrative and academic activities for the department and faculty, and establishing a research program with a focus on Earth's physical environment.
The successful candidate is expected to have expertise in a wide range of fields, including climate change, environment-society interactions, cold regions (human and biophysical), urban environments, culture, migration, sustainability, geomatics, spatial data science, and artificial intelligence (AI). We offer BA, BSc, MA, MSc, and PhD programs, and the Faculty of Arts maintains three computer teaching laboratories and several geomatics and physical geography laboratories.
A key aspect of this position is the ability to attract external funding, which will be supported by start-up funding from the Faculty of Arts. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to our undergraduate and graduate programs, including teaching courses related to climate change, geomorphology, hydrology, biogeography, cold regions, and other subfields of physical geography.
