Job Title: Environmental Operations Advisor

Adecco Canada is seeking a highly skilled Environmental Operations Advisor to join our client's Environment & Regulatory team in the oil sands facilities at Christina Lake. As a key member of the team, you will provide field expertise and guidance related to management and monitoring of environmental approvals and activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Participate in the field execution of environmental and regulatory activities, including data collection, monitoring, sampling, equipment setup and removal, report writing, and management of 3rd party environmental contractors.
  • Field environmental data collection will include tasks such as freshwater usage, lake level measurements, stream gaging, wildlife sweeps, soil sampling, and data analysis.
  • Advise and report on EPEA, Water Act, Public Lands Act, and other related environmental compliance activities, in consultation with Calgary-based environmental advisors.
  • Maintain current and emerging knowledge of environmental regulatory requirements and their potential impact on company business plans.
  • Participate in process development specific to the environment group and execution of field environmental activities.
  • Identify and communicate environmental risks to onsite environmental leadership and accountable site leadership, including proactive environmental issue identification.
  • Provide field assistance and guidance for environmental risk assessments, incident mitigation, and reporting.
  • Work and coordinate with Calgary & Field Environmental Advisors, third-party environmental consultants, and shared service providers to support the safe execution of field activities.
  • Support and/or conduct environmental audits and inspections.
Requirements:
  • Must be legally eligible to work and reside in Canada.
  • University degree in Environmental Science, Resource Management, Biology, or a related discipline with a minimum of 5 years' experience in a field environmental advisory capacity for oil and gas developments in Western Canada, or a related technical diploma with a minimum of 8 years' technical experience.
  • Project management, strong planning skills, technical skills, and proactive issue management are required for success in this role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Federal and Provincial environmental regulations related to oil and gas development and operations in Western Canada, with a focus on the Water Act, Public Lands Act, and EPEA approval.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, team-oriented, and suited to work as part of a field-based team.
  • Experience dealing with stakeholders and regulators, and demonstrated ability in conflict resolution and negotiation.
  • Ability to work outdoors, remotely, and independently, including the use of off-road vehicles.
  • Ground Disturbance Level 1 (Level 2 would be preferable).
  • H2S Alive.
  • First Aid/CPR.
  • Working knowledge of soil and vegetation types prevalent in the northern boreal forest.
  • Working knowledge of wildlife and wildlife features prevalent in the northern boreal forest.
  • Experience conducting water and soil sampling and sample analysis interpretation.
  • Working knowledge of general surveying equipment and GIS concepts.
