We are a climate tech start-up based in Vancouver, dedicated to measuring and verifying the impact of global restoration efforts. Our mission is to plant 1 billion verified trees by 2030 with our community of businesses, planting organizations, and consumers.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Back-End Developer with strong experience in PHP frameworks to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of server-side technologies and a proven track record of developing scalable, high-performance applications.

This is a 12-month set-term employment contract. Successful applicants must be located in Vancouver, BC and willing to work from our HQ on a hybrid basis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Migrate business logic and models from Laravel to services.
  • Maintain and update the Laravel monolith to reflect core data model changes.
  • Debug the Laravel monolith for day-to-day issues.
What You Will Be Doing
  • Develop and maintain robust, scalable, and efficient back-end systems using PHP frameworks.
  • Collaborate with front-end developers and other team members to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
  • Migrate key models, helpers, and general business logic from Laravel to services.
  • Design and implement data storage solutions, including databases and caching mechanisms.
  • Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability.
  • Troubleshoot and debug applications to ensure optimal performance.
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
  • Work collaboratively and cross-functionally within an Agile environment.
  • Write and maintain technical documentation for new and existing features.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven experience as a Back-End Developer with a strong portfolio of relevant projects.
  • Strong knowledge of PHP and experience with at least one PHP framework.
  • Proficiency in and frameworks available for it.
  • Extensive experience with database management systems.
  • Proficiency working with ORMs.
  • Understanding of RESTful API design and implementation.
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git.
Desirable Attributes
  • Experience with Docker and containerization technologies.
  • Familiarity with cloud services.
  • Knowledge of microservices architecture and experience with distributed service architectures.
  • Experience with code migration between languages or platforms.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and tools.
  • Familiarity with front-end technologies and integration with front-end frameworks.

A typical hiring range for this position is $105,000 - $125,000 CAD per year with the final salary offer based on your qualifications, job-related skills, and relevant experience.
